Montville Teacher Who Lost Home In Fire In National Spotlight

After his home RV burned down, a GoFundMe campaign started by a former student helped raise over $55,000.

Montville, NJ — The story of a Montville former teacher whose students helped raise over $55,000 after his home RV burned down was picked up by national media. Good Morning America interviewed the Randolph native and published a video segment about it.

"Suddenly all these people were offering me clothing, housing, food. It was so overwhelming I could hardly say anything," Jack Lynch told Good Morning America.

A decade after his wife died, Jack Lynch sold his home and bought an RV to travel across the country visiting friends and family, Kurt Kilanowski, a former student, wrote in the GoFundMe campaign he started after the fire.

So far, the campaign has reached just under $5,000 short of the $60,000 goal.

On the GoFundMe page, the organizer, Kurt Kilanowski, clarified that insurance would help pay off Lynch's mortgage, but that he would have to drain all his life savings to get a another RV that wouldn't even be class.

"What if he didn’t have to? What if his friends, family, and former students across the globe were able to take care of that burden for a man who has dedicated his life to taking care of us?" he wrote.
