Morris County Park Closed Due To Raccoon Attack

Morris County Park Police closed Tourne County Park until further notice after a 76-year-old man was attacked by a raccoon.

A 76-year-old man was bitten by a raccoon on the lower leg as well as his index finger and thumb while walking through Tourne County Park in Boonton Tuesday morning, according to a press release by the Morris County Park Police.

As a result, Tourne County Park has been closed until further notice. The victim of the raccoon attack was taken to St. Clare's Hospital in Denville and was treated for rabies due to the nature of the attack.

According to Morris County Park Police, the man was bitten around 8 a.m. on White Trail near the Powerville Road entrance to the park. Since the attack was unprovoked, according to the victim's statement to police, the closure of the park was determined to be in the best interest of public safety.
