Honeywell Plan Moves Ahead, Group Needs $10K More Top Local News

After the ordinance to rezone Honeywell was introduced by the township committee Wednesday night, several residents are unhappy with the condensed hearing dates scheduled in August. They feel there isn't enough time get their voices heard about the redevelopment plan beacuse many people are on vacation.

A Parsippany couple recently brought the nationwide snow cone franchise, Kona Ice, to the township and borough. Driving around a colorful frozen ice truck, owner Rupesh Patel said he is looking to do more private events and fundraisers this summer to offer his 40-plus unique ice flavors for a refreshing treat.

Philip Cise, 48, of Dover, who allegedly struck and killed the Paramus High School valedictorian in 2010, had several other run-ins with the law this past month, after striking a jogger, plowing a car into a utility pole, allegedly harassing golf course workers and stealing a truck.

Morris Township firefighter Michael Kubach was rushed to Morristown Medical Center on Monday after suffering a heat stroke while training at the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy. Fire chief Scott Lovenberg said Kubach was doing much better during the week and was expected to be released from the hospital on Thursday.

After the Neighborhood House, which holds recreational and educational programs for low-income families around Morris County, was falling $20,000 behind on its $50,000 fundraising goal last week, the program was able to make a quick turnaround by closing the gap in half and receiving $10,000 in donations.
