Lifelong Morristown Resident, Prominent Lawyer Dies at 81

Edward Broderick, Jr. was the starter for Morris County's St. Patrick's Day Parade in 2015.

To say Edward Broderick Jr., Esq. was an accomplished man would be a vast understatement.

The lifelong Morristown resident and 2015 Morris County St. Patrick’s Day Parade starter died recently at the age of 81.

Broderick began his education at St. Margaret’s School, then graduated Delbarton School in 1950, and Notre Dame in 1954, followed by that institution’s law school in 1956.

Broderick joined his father’s private law practice in 1959 and was a senior managing partner of Broderick, Newmark, and Grather P.C. for more than five decades.

The accomplished civil and trial attorney recently joined Wilson Elser, LLP on a counsel basis. In addition to his professional triumphs, Broderick dedicated many hours of pro bono work and volunteer service to numerous organizations including the Morris County Historical Society, the New Jersey Veterans’ Associations, the Harding Township Library Board of Trustees, the American Red Cross, the Morristown/Morris Township Public Library, and the Boy Scouts of America. He served as a Delbarton School trustee for 28 years and represented St. Mary’s Abbey.

Before his professional career began, Broderick served three years in the United States Air Force, and stayed on as a reserve until retiring in 1987 at the rank of Colonel.

Broderick loved playing tennis, swimming and sailing, along with reading and writing.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Faith, two daughters, two sons, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 29 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Doyle Funeral Home on Maple Avenue in Morristown. A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Abbey, Delbarton School in the Abbey Church in Morristown at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 30.
