MOMI receives Morris Arts Grant for Virtual ChalkFest
ChalkFest to be held on the International Day of Families on May 15th with this year's theme "Drawing Families Together".

MOMI, Museum of Imagination and Innovation has been awarded a local arts mini-grant for a virtual chalk festival on May 15, 2021. The purpose of the festival, MOMI ChalkFest 2021: Drawing Families Together, is to celebrate the strength of family and the power of play.
Neighborhoods, employers, social service agencies, arts and culture organizations, schools and other groups are invited to participate. Families are encouraged to get outside and make a chalk creation together on their patio, driveway, sidewalk or street. Groups can host a mini chalk festival while adhering to current social distancing guidelines in their neighborhood, a parking lot, on a parking deck or office plaza. MOMI hopes that families from all over the Morris and Somerset County area will get outside and play with chalk together on this day.
The United Nations declared May 15th the International Day of Families in 1994 to promote the inherent strength of families and to address the needs of all families. MOMI includes in its core values and mission a focus on meeting families where they are, to encourage families of all kinds to play together and to understand the value of that play.

The event is free for all to participate. Funding has been made possible in part by funds from Morris Arts through the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts. A portion of the grant will be used to provide chalk to our social service partners for the families they serve to encourage access and inclusion to this event. To encourage access for all abilities, participants with mobility issues can use black paper or poster board on a level surface.
All families who register will receive tips and techniques for creating their chalk art. To register, visit MOMIchalkfest2021.eventbrite.com
