More Dogs And Cats Adopted In Morris County Than Euthanized
According to NJ's 2015 Animal Intake and Disposition Report, more than half the dogs and cats impounded in Morris County were adopted.

New Jersey's 2015 report on Animal Intake and Disposition should prove reassuring for advocates of pet adoption, especially those in Morris County.
The report listed a total of 6,108 dogs and cats being impounded in 2015 in Morris County shelters with 57 percent (3,511) being adopted. Only Camden County had more pets adopted than Morris County, but their intake numbers are also significantly higher (9,931 dogs and cats were impounded in Camden County, 66 percent of which were adopted).
According to the 2014 report, adoptions are up 2% throughout the state while euthanizations are down 5%, which shakes out to be 4,260 less euthanizations in 2015.

For cat lovers, however, the numbers might prove saddening as significantly more cats were euthanized than dogs in 2015 (13,598 cats to 3,218 dogs). The good news is that 22,309 cats were adopted throughout New Jersey, with 1,846 being adopted in Morris County. Dogs also fared well in regards to adoptions with 15,549 dogs finding new homes in 2015.
While adoptions beat out euthanizations, the numbers for cats and dogs redeemed by their original owners increased by 1% but was still the least common outcome in regards to pets that were impounded. Out of the 78,861 cats and dogs impounded only 10,821 were redeemed by their owners.
