NJ Weather: More Snow In Forecast As Nor'easter Recovery Goes On

More snow is expected as thousands remain without power from a vicious nor'easter that slammed the area.

Snow is in the forecast for New Jersey this week as the recovery from Friday's vicious nor'easter continues. More than 90,000 customers remained without power as of Sunday morning, and some are not expected to get it back for days.

Flooding was reported in Manasquan, Ocean City and other areas of the Jersey Shore (see information below).

The next dose of winter weather could come Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. Snow could mix with rain during the day before switching fully to snow on Wednesday, the forecast says.

The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood warning and a hazardous weather outlook, saying another coastal storm is expected to impact the state Tuesday night and Wednesday. There is the potential for moderate to heavy precipitation, which will fall in the form of both rain and snow in our region.

Where rain will prevail and where plowable snow will fall remains a bit uncertain at this time. Precipitation type will depend on the eventual track and intensity of the storm, according to the NWS.

As of Sunday morning, no accumulation estimates have been released for this possible mid-week storm. Continue to check back as we monitor the updated forecasts.

Here is the forecast:

  • Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 46. Northwest wind 11 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.
  • Sunday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 28. North wind 11 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.
  • Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 46. North wind 8 to 11 mph.
  • Monday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 27. North wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight.
  • Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 45. Calm wind becoming southeast around 5 mph in the afternoon.
  • Tuesday night: Rain likely before 10pm, then rain and snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 33. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
  • Wednesday: Snow. High near 37. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.
  • Wednesday night: Snow likely, mainly before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Meanwhile, much of New Jersey was still struggling to recover Sunday after a destructive nor'easter left much of the state without power, while downed trees were discovered everywhere and roads were closed because of flooding.

A massive tree fell on a woman in Ridgewood while she was walking her dog. The woman was hospitalized. Read more: Massive Tree Falls On Woman While Walking Dog In Ridgewood.

More than 90,000 people were still without power as the nor'easter left a path of downed wires and damage throughout the state (see impacts below).

Morris County was especially hard-hit. JCP&L is expecting to restore power to all Morris County towns by 11:30 p.m. on either Tuesday or Wednesday, the company said on its website. The company says they're working quickly to address over 200 downed poles and over 1,000 downed wires. Read more: Power Restoration Times Announced By JCP&L For Morris County

Montville

The Montville Township Police Department advises the following road closures:

  • Jacksonville Rd
  • Pine Brook Rd
  • Waughaw Rd
  • Peace Valley Rd
  • Vista Rd
  • Hillcrest Rd
  • Pepper Rd.
  • Rooms Rd near the end.

Morristown

Avoid Morris Avenue ( CR 510 ) eastbound near Washington's Headquarters, which will be closed to through traffic until further notice. A large tree has fallen on power lines and is completely blocking the roadway. Please plan alternate routes and avoid this area until clean up can be completed.

Parsippany

In the last 24 hours, the Parsippany Police Department has responded to over 200 calls for service which were predominantly related to issues caused by the storm.

As the cleanup continues, many are wondering when the power will be restored. "Unfortunately, we do not have that answer since JCP&L is currently in storm mode and usually does not provide estimates of when the remaining customers will get power back," the police said in a statement. "When updates are made regarding the power outage, the quickest way to receive them is by going to the JCP&L website and signing up for text message alerts."

Below are the current roads that are closed due to downed power lines, telephone poles and/or trees:

  • South Beverwyck Road at Lord Sterling Drive
  • Sommerfield Ave and West Park Place in Mount Tabor
  • Glenwood Road (Rainbow Lakes)
  • Beachwood Road near Brooklawn Middle School
  • Hoffman Ave near Iroquois Ave

Franklin Lakes

Due to widespread storm damage in the area, electric company crews are addressing power outages; police are unsure of expected power restoration.

Princeton

There are many Road closures in Princeton as crews clear storm damage.

  • Great Road closed from Ridgeview to Cherry Valley; please follow detour.
  • Great Road closed from Hodge Road to 206 traffic light out; please avoid area.
  • Riverside closed from Prospect to Sycamore Live wire down; please avoid area.
  • Quaker Road remains closed due to flooding and debris.
  • Cleveland lane closed from Library place to Elm Road traffic light out; please follow detour.
  • Traffic lights are out at the following intersections - Stockton 206/ Elm, Stuart/ great , Rosedale /elm- please avoid area follow all detours.
  • Please do not move barricades cones or other emergency devices as there may be unseen hazards. Find alternate routes.

Readington

Due to fallen trees/wires, the following roads are currently closed. Stanton Station, Dreahook, Old York, Rockaway, Taylors Mill.

Jersey Shore

There was flooding after high tide rolled in around 9 a.m., and much of it was expected to return after 9 p.m. on Saturday (see tweets below).

Tewksbury

Numerous Roads in the Township remained closed due to downed wires and trees. Most notably are the following: Route 517 between Laurel Mountain Road and Homestead Road; County Rt. 512 between Route 517 and Hollow Brook Road; Rockaway Road between Main Street and Still Hollow Road; Water Street between Main Street and Longview Road; and Cokesbury Califon Road between Sutton Road and Mt. Grove Road.

The road department is out in all areas working to clear the roads of trees and debris. The Road Department is not permitted to cut trees that are touching or tangled with wires. We are working with JCP&L to have these trees removed. At this time JCP&L is unable to provide us with estimated times to remove the trees and restore power.
