Morris Detective Receives Award For Saving A Life
Morris Township Police Detective Diego Pinheiro was presented with the award by the chief of police
MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ—On September 4, Morris Township Police Chief Mark DiCarlo presented Det. Diego Pinheiro with a Life Saving Award.
Earlier this year, Detective Pinheiro and several patrol officers responded to an attempted suicide in Morris Township, where they discovered a male with serious self-inflicted injuries.
Pinheiro, who is a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), provided critical first aid, along with the other officers, including applying tourniquets to the victim.

"Their quick and well-trained decisions led to the male surviving his life-threatening wounds," said a statement by the Morris Township Police Department.
The incident was not the first time Pinheiro has saved a life.

In February 2017, while the state was in the midst of a serious opioid epidemic, Pinheiro used Narcan to stop a woman from overdosing. The detective was also recognized for deploying to Puerto Rico in 2017 to assist after Hurricane Maria devastated the island.
