Morris Mayor Demands Answers To Mailbox Questions
The mayor called for transparency amid confusion over mailbox removals

MORRIS TWP—Morris Township Mayor Catherine Wilson demanded answers on Friday to the continuing questions over the removal of mailboxes in the Morris area.
“I call on our local postmaster, Jose Reyes, I want a list of mailboxes locally that were removed, and why,” Wilson said. “If they have indeed been replaced, I want to know when and where.”
Wilson, speaking at a Convent Station rally to support the postal service, added that she wanted a list of any future mailboxes to be replaced.

The controversy in Morris started amid a national uproar over budget and operational changes at the post office that some say are politically motivated. When Morristown Committeeman Mark Gyrofy shared photos on Twitter on Aug. 15 of workers loading blue mailboxes onto a flatbed truck in Morristown, the reaction was alarm.
However, Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty told the Daily Record that the boxes weren’t being permanently removed, but replaced. One of the new boxes is located in Morristown.

But an absence of clarification from the postal service, which did not return a request for comment and has not communicated with Wilson's office, has allowed the issue to linger. The mayor said the lack of a response is concerning, but she isn't going to let the issue fade.
“We want answers,” Wilson said, “and I want the answers in writing and shared with the public.”
