Morris Plains Community Band to Perform at Roberts Garden
Community Band to perform original composition
The Morris Plains Community Band will be performing a free concert in the park on Sunday, July 3, 2016, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Roberts Garden. The park is located adjacent to the Morris Plains Public Library at the intersection of Glenbrook Road and Mountain Way.
The twenty-piece band, directed by retired musician and band leader Larry Ripley, is made up of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments, and will be playing selections including traditional American songs, patriotic music, marches, TV and movie themes, Broadway show tunes etc.
A highlight of the evening will be the performance of an original song composed by Larry Monahan, founder of the original Morris Plains Community Band in 1888. This composition, “Three Cheers for the Flag of My Country”, was written in 1910 as a piano/vocal song, and was recently arranged for full band as a tribute to the composer.
The concert will be performed outside in the park, so bring lawn chairs or blankets. Rain date will be Wednesday, July 6th at the same time.
