Morris Plains Students Awarded National Merit Scholarships

Congratulations Norman Chen-Liaw, Jessica Pan, and Eileen S. Wang!

Morris Plains, NJ — Three Morris Plains residents were awarded National Merit Scholarships. Norman Chen-Liaw, Jessica Pan, and Eileen S. Wang were awarded the scholarship for outstanding academic potential.

They are part of the first round of winners in the 62nd annual national Merit Scholarship Program, which awards corporate and foundation sponsored scholarships to over 1,000 high school students.

Chen-Liaw, a student at Delbarton School, intends to pursue a career in mechanical engineering. Formosa Plastics Corporation, U.S.A sponsored Chen-Liaw's award, which is available to children of Formosa employees.

Pan, a student at The Academy for Mathematics, Science and Engineering, plans to pursue a career in biomedical engineering. Wang, a student at Parsippany Hills High School, plans to enter biomedical engineering. Both of their awards were sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation's own funds.

To be considered for a scholarship, students had to complete a detailed application, which included an essay, information about extracurricular activities, a school official recommendation and high SAT scores.
