Morristown Funeral Home's Namesake, Army Veteran Dies at 84

Michael Doyle, Jr was a volunteer firefighter and great-grandfather.

The man who has helped so many in and around Morristown say beautiful goodbyes to their loved ones is now on the other end of his business.

Michael “Mickey” Doyle, Jr, 84, namesake of Doyle Funeral Home in Morristown, died at home surrounded by his family on Oct. 18, according to his obituary.

Doyle lived in Morris Township for more than 50 years. He graduated Bayley High School in 1948 and was later inducted into the Bayley Ellard Hall of Fame. Doyle attended Carteret Prep School before attending and graduating from Notre Dame in 1953 where he was captain of the golf team.

Doyle served in the United States Army during the Korean War before working at the family business his father founded in 1914.

Doyle was a volunteer fireman with the Washington Engine Company No. 1 of the Morristown Fire Department and a member of the New Jersey Fireman’s Association, Knights of Columbus George Washington Council 359, American Legion Post 95 of Morristown, Sierra Club, basketball and baseball coach at Delbarton School, and Morristown Recreation Commission. Doyle was also the parade starter for the 2012 Morris County St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Doyle is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lois Ann, four children, 11 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
