Neighbor Heard 'Four Shots in Rapid Succession'

One East Hanover Avenue resident was shaken after hearing "four shots in rapid succession" that authorities said struck a nearby Morris Township home late Wednesday night.

As authorities continue to , Shomari Hohn said Thursday "it's usually a safe area, but there's a cause for concern."

Hohn said he wasn't sure what he heard at first were gun shots.

"I just knew it didn't sound right," he said. "I thought it was firecrackers at first."

Hohn, who has lived on the street for two years, said he's friendly with most of his neighbors, but is not familiar with the residents of the home where the shooting took place.

Kenneth Harris, a Vietnam vet who lives a few doors down from the house, said he was awake when the shots were fired at about 11:30 p.m., but didn't hear anything over his television.

However, his wife heard the shots and a neighbor called and told them to stay away from the windows and to lock their doors, Harris said.

Despite the gun shots, Harris said he's "not concerned because it's a safe neighborhood."

Other residents in the area either did not answer their door Thursday afternoon or declined comment.

Members of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, , Morristown Police Department and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Section remained on the scene gathering evidence Thursday morning.
