String Of Burglaries Share Similarities In Morris Twp: PD

Police say a string of burglaries in recent months all share several similarities.

MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ — There have been three home burglaries in Morris Township in the past three months, and police are warning residents about potential patterns.

In all three cases, at least two people have broken into the homes through exit doors. They go directly to the master bedrooms, looking for jewelry and other person items, but ignore laptops and tablets. The burglaries usually occur between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Residents can take precautions against burglaries by making their homes look occupied, including: lights on timers, motion lights, leave a TV on, dogs that bark, leave cars in driveway instead of on the street or in the garage.

Alarms and cameras can also be effective tools, police said.

In the event you see a suspicious car, police ask that you get "the make and model of a car along with the color and a direction of travel if the vehicle leaves."

"Also, if you can tell what state the license plate is from or even obtain the license plate number, while making sure you are not in any danger, then that is also helpful," police said.

In the event your home is targeted, don't touch anything before calling 911. "Call 911 immediately, exit from the same door you entered along the same path you took until you saw your house had been broken into. Let’s work together not just to solve these burglaries but also to prevent them," police said.
