Arthur's Tavern In Morris Plains Closes Due To Coronavirus Case

The restaurant will reopen Thursday. Several customers gave them credit for their transparency.

MORRIS PLAINS, NJ — Arthur's Tavern in Morris Plains temporarily closed after an employee tested positive for the coronavirus. The popular restaurant will reopen Thursday.

"During that time all of our staff will be tested for the virus and the restaurant will be re-sanitized by Go Pro USA," owner Alice McGreevy announced on Facebook. "We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."

Several customers credited Arthur's Tavern for their transparency.

"I think it's amazing that you're so open and transparent and putting safety and health first," one commenter wrote. "Thank you for that. Well wishes to all and we will definitely order once you reopen!!"

"Thank you for taking the precautionary measure for not only your staff, but for your customers as well," said another. "Stay safe! See you when you open again."

When open, Arthur's Tavern only takes reservations to prevent overbooking. The restaurant is known for its giant steaks, "overstuffed" sandwiches and huge salads.

County officials have reported 41 cases in Morris Plains from Dec. 2 to Thursday, bringing the borough to 209 cases since the pandemic began.
