Being Reminded of Our Value

It's not just about the high profile events.

I was reminded the other night that, yes, I do serve a purpose in this world. Specifically, what I am doing here at Morristown Patch is being appreciated.

No, this does not have to do with high profile events like or the on the Green, though those are important, too. But, these events also were covered by more publications than just this one (besides, Karen Fucito takes photos about 663,000 times better than I can, so I deferred to her expertise).

While the rally was going on on the Green Tuesday, I was somewhere else. And, as far as media involvement, I was the only one in attendance.

The . Most usually are, despite many having their children in the MSD, with its Board members making decisions that affect those children. It's also the school district that accounts for some 60 percent of one's annual tax bill. 

But, not I'm here to lament the lack of turnout. One member of the League of Women Voters of the Morristown Area, which organized the event, wasn't about to.

Instead, she shook my hand, smiled broadly and thanked me for attending. She blamed the lack of attendance on people's "busy schedules." I appreciated the positive attitude.

I will be plain: This isn't always an easy job. It can be downright taxing. I'm being gentle with my words. As such, one's enthusiasm for such a job can begin to wane, like a car running on fumes. Eventually, you need to fill up.
