MORRISTOWN, NJ — Cluck-U is no spring chicken to Morristown, but soon the restaurant will have a new home. The eatery announced that it will move to 162 South St.

Cluck-U Chicken had moved from its location in the Midtown Shopping Plaza because of redevelopment. They currently operate nearby at 50 Morris St. and will continue to do so until Dec. 31.

They aim to reopen on South Street in late January or early February. Cluck-U will take the former spot of Guerriero's Ristorante, which recently moved to 90 South St.

Both restaurants joined Morristown's Adopt a Business initiative in which people can donate to local businesses to help them pay their winter rent amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Neil Goldrosen said he opened Cluck-U in the 1990s in Morristown because of its "small town feel, proximity to great college kids, and the opportunity to supply delicious, quick service food to all the businesses and residents of this great town," according to the GoFundMe.

But the pandemic and redevelopment around town have given the business obstacles, Goldrosen said.

"As most Morristonians know, the zoning board has been having a field day with redeveloping Morristown," he wrote. "Our loyal customers know far too well that we've been affected immensely. The current redevelopment plan has forced us out of our home that we've had for the past 27 years and transplanted us into a temporary spot that we need to vacate by December 31, 2020. Add Covid-19 to the mix, and you'll see that our expenses have far exceeded our sales."

Cluck-U has more than a dozen locations in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland.
