Crash Closes Most Of Rt. 80 Eastbound; Delays In Area

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — Commuters should brace for a long commute home this afternoon, after an overturned tractor trailer and fuel spill forced the closure of Route 80 for almost the entire day.

As of 2:15 p.m., one lane has reopened on the eastbound side. The right and center lanes remain closed.

The crash happened near Exit 34 in Roxbury around 5 a.m. All eastbound lanes were closed and detoured until around 2 p.m., and there were persistent delays of over 90 minutes. As of 2:15 p.m., NJ DOT is just warning of major, multi-mile delays.

N.J. DOT still is advising drivers to avoid the area entirely if they can.

Traffic from the crash is still spilling on over to local roads, including Routes 24, 46, 15 and 10 in the area.

Drivers should plan for traffic and take another route if possible. Or, as the Roxbury police department suggested tongue-in-cheek, "Might wanna start your weekend a day early..."
