A Day Without Car Fatalities Across Morris County
Police put the word out for Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day on October 10.

Imagine a day without one car accident. Even though most of us thankfully don't directly experience or witness an accident every day, it's actually happening in the thousands all around us.
There are about 3,287 deaths daily from car accidents around the world, according to the Association for Safe International Road Travel. In fact, over a million people will die each ear in road crashes, the safe road travel organization says. In New Jersey alone, 562 individuals lost their lives in motor vehicle-related crashes last year, according to statistics compiled by the Brakes on Fatalities initiative.
The Brakes on Fatalities is pushing for at least one day, October 10, where there are zero fatalities by the end of the day. Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day is a national initiative for all motorists, in New Jersey as well as throughout the nation, to participate in doing what we should be doing every other day: obeying all traffic laws, buckling up, driving under the posted speed limit, and being safe and sober behind the wheel.

“Clearly, this effort will go a long way in our continuing efforts to stem the tide of tragedies that occur every day on New Jersey’s roadways,” Sgt. Darren Tynan said. “Shining the spotlight on this one day can help create a groundswell of support for good driving behaviors that can carry over throughout the year.”
