How's Morristown Doing With Vaccines? A Look At The Numbers

How often have residents received COVID vaccines in recent weeks? Will Morristown meet the state's threshold? Let's look at the numbers.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Although COVID-19 vaccines will, of course, remain available, New Jersey and the Biden administration are reaching crunch time for their vaccination goals. Morristown also enters a pivotal moment for doing its part in those objectives.

The New Jersey Department of Health set a goal for 70 percent of adults to get fully vaccinated by the end of June. President Joe Biden aims for the same by July 4.

Currently, 60 percent of Morristown's adults are fully vaccinated. New Jersey only recently released municipal data for vaccinations. But the available data helps visualize Morristown's progress and shows a path for the town to reach the 70 percent mark in time.

Four weeks ago, only 46 percent of Morristown's adults were fully vaccinated. May was the first full month in which all New Jersey adults were eligible for the shots.

Another potential sign of progress for Morristown? Seventy-three percent of adults have received at least one dose, meaning the town would exceed 70 percent in the next month if everyone with one dose received their second shot if they haven't already.

But New Jersey has also seen a decline in vaccines administered since the beginning of April. Here's the state's data:

It's not immediately clear whether the slowdown will hit Morristown. The town only saw 1 percent of adults become fully vaccinated in the past week, according to the New Jersey Department of Health. But New Jersey's COVID-19 dashboard, which displays the municipal data, often takes days to process each new vaccination.

Here's Morristown's data, according to the state health department:

  • Population with at least one dose (as of Monday morning): 64 percent of all ages, 73 percent of adults (18 and over) and 99 percent of seniors (65 and over).
  • Population with at least one dose (four weeks ago): 55 percent of all ages, 65 percent of adults and 95 percent of seniors.
  • Population fully vaccinated (as of Monday morning): 51 percent of all ages, 60 percent of adults and 89 percent of seniors.
  • Population fully vaccinated (four weeks ago): 39 percent of all ages, 46 percent of adults and 82 percent of seniors.

People 12 and older can get the Pfizer vaccines. Only adults can get the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccines. Moderna will seek emergency authorization of its vaccine for children 12-17 from the Food and Drug Administration in early June.
