JCP&L Conducting Thermovision Inspections on 355 Distribution Circuits

Thermographic cameras detect potential problems on wires and other electrical equipment not seen by the eye: press release

MORRISTOWN, N.J.– Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) is conducting thermovision inspections on 355 distribution circuits across northern and central New Jersey.

Over 2,100 line miles will be inspected as part of this process, JCP&L said in a press release.

According to JCP&L, the cameras capture infrared images of the distribution lines exiting substations and fuses located on poles.

The images are downloaded and reviewed, the company said.

The infrared technology shows heat on a color scale with hot spots indicating areas in need of repair, according to JCP&L.

JCP&L said the inspections are part of a $387 million plan to enhance service and maintain a strong electrical system.

The company said it serves 1.1 million New Jersey customers in Burlington, Essex, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union and Warren counties.
