Man Faces Murder Charge In Morristown Train Station Death

MORRISTOWN, NJ — A man was charged with murder Wednesday in connection to a dead person found earlier this week at the Morristown Train Station. Authorities connected Lamar Harris to the killing days after finding the victim with apparent injuries and a brick next to his body, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said.

The county medical examiner's office's autopsy determined the victim's manner of death as homicide. The victim, identified as M.P., sustained head injuries, the prosecutor's office said. The family requested that law enforcement not release his full name.

Police received word at about 12:30 a.m. Monday about a dead man on a stairway at the train station. Subsequent investigation revealed Harris was at the scene with M.P. before the murder, the MCPO said.

Harris was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. Authorities took him to the county jail.

The arrest required a "round-the-clock," multi-agency investigation, according to Acting County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll.

“This is an example of police agencies selflessly pulling together to respond to a murder scene, develop evidence, identify a suspect and then safely effectuate an arrest,” Carroll said.
