Man Threw Rock Through A Morristown Church's Glass Doors: Cops

Several signs and photographs had been removed and destroyed, police said. Authorities haven't identified a motive.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — A Morristown man faces charges after throwing a rock Monday through the St. Margaret's Church's stained-glass front doors, according to police. Several signs and photographs had also been removed from the church and destroyed, authorities said.

Pedro Bautista-Vasquez was charged with burglary and criminal mischief. Police haven't identified a motive, but they believe only Bautista-Vasquez was involved in the incident.

A person flagged down Officer Michael Cerick at about midnight Monday after seeing a person try to break into the church, police said. Cerick saw Bautista-Vasquez throwing a rock through the glass doors, according to authorities.

Officials took Bautista-Vasquez, 47, to Morristown Medical Center for an evaluation.

The church posted photos of the damage its Facebook page.

"After celebrating the feast of Christ the King with great solemnity we got hit with the destruction of the front doors and stain glass big window of our church," they wrote. "His kingdom is of justice, peace and love so why this abomination against the Church?"
