MBS Summer Institute to Offer New Enrichment and Credit Courses

Registration is now open for the 2020 Morristown-Beard School Summer Institute, which will be held from July 20 - 31. This year, the MBS Summer Institute will offer credit courses as well as courses for enrichment.

Middle Years courses (rising 6th– 8th Grade) will include “Outdoor Adventure: Survival, Sustainability, and Leadership,” “Math Madness,” “Wordsmithing: Writing Skills Through Creativity,” and “Escape Room Challenge.” Upper Years (rising 9th– 12th Grade) course offerings are “Personal Writing and the College Essay,” “Bridge to Integrated Math,” “IdeaLab: Entrepreneurial Boot Camp,” and “Soundscapes: Designing Electronic Music.” All are half-day courses.

In addition, MBS will offer two-week full-day courses for credit in history, architecture and science. The courses include “Constitutional Debates,” “Sustainable Elements of Architecture,” and “The Body at Risk: Immunology in Action.”

“At the Summer Institute, our courses are project-based, team-taught, and founded on the principles of design thinking: collaboration, brainstorming, prototyping, critique, and a constant interrogation of constraints in order to find new paths to success,” said Dr. Amanda Gregory, Director of the Summer Institute. “The Summer Institute aims to balance the fostering of 21st century skills with the freedom of understanding and imagination as worthwhile in themselves. In all of our courses, students will be immersed in experiences that transcend single disciplines, demanding divergent thinking and the willingness to relish open-ended tasks.”
