In 2020, there was a virtual reading of the Declaration of Independence. The Morris County Tourism Bureau typically coordinates a Declaration of Independence reading in the Morristown Green. Stay tuned here to the Washington's Headquarters' National Park Service website for updates.

What: July 4th Historical Hike
Where: Morris County Historical Society at Acorn Hall, 68 Lafayette Avenue, Morristown
When: 11 a.m. to noon July 4
Free for attendees, enjoy a guided hike along the Patriots' Path where Revolutionary War activities took place. Walk in the footprints of history, to the ruins of a powder mill, owned by Jacob Ford Jr. The powder manufactured at this site was sent to Gen. Henry Knox's troops in Pluckemin. What: Parsippany 4th of July Fireworks Celebration
Where: Parsippany Hills High School
When: 7-10 p.m. July 4 (rain date July 5)
Parsippany's 4th of July celebration is back. The summer concert series will kick off with Garden State Radio. Find more info here.
What: Guided Tours of the Whippany Burying Yard
Where: 325 Route 10 East, Whippany
When: 10 a.m. to noon July 4
The Hanover Township Landmark Commission has organized tours of the Whippany Burying Yard, which celebrated its Tricentennial in 2018. This is the eternal resting place of colonial settlers who walked the earth, predating the birth of the United States, some who fought in the American Revolution. Attendees can park in the lot on Route 10 East and walk west in the direction of the cemetery. See more details here.
What: Lake Hopatcong Fireworks
Where: Launched From Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club, 75 North Bertrand Road, Mt. Arlington
When: July 4, rain date July 10
The fireworks in Lake Hopatcong are being launched from the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club, with the club having hosted its yearly display since the 1950s. Residents around and visitors to the state's largest lake, like to drop their anchors for a view within the yacht club; or at restaurants on the water.
What: Randolph Township Freedom Festival
Where: County College of Morris, 214 Center Grove Road, Randolph
When: July 1-3
A three-day festival in Randolph, with food, music, rides, vendors, games, family entertainment and more. Find details here.
What: Tequila Rose in Concert
Where: Mt. Hope Road, Rockaway Township
When: 3-5 p.m. July 4
The Rockaway Gazebo Summer Concert Series begins with Tequila Rose, performing a mix of new country and the classics. Here's the summer concert schedule.
What: Mendham Township Fireworks
Where: Mosle Field, Mendham Township
When: Friday, July 2, Gates open at 6:30 p.m.
Mendham Township is hosting its second annual fireworks display, with a fundraiser ongoing for it through Tuesday, June 29. Business sponsorships start at $500, with signage for those sponsors at the event. When the gates open, music and activities are planned up to 10 p.m., with the show after dark on the football field. What: Brookside 4th of July Parade - "The Grandest Littlest Parade In America"
Where: Brookside Community Club, 1 East Main Street, Mendham
When: Saturday, July 3, beginning at 8 a.m.
This fun-filled free day is a parade and events lineup all in one. With the "Roaring 20s" theme for the 98th annual parade, known as "The Grandest Littlest Parade In America," the morning kicks off breakfast at the community club at 8 a.m., followed with the parade at 9. At 11 a.m. is a picnic lunch followed by activities at the Community Club, including field games, parade awards and more. At 1:30 p.m. is swimming at Brookside Beach. What: 4th of July Cupcake Class
Where: Candyland Crafts, 44 West Somerset Street, Raritan
When: Wednesday, June 23, 6 to 7 p.m.
It's $45 per person special camp event and beginners class for ages 12 to 18, with tips to make celebratory July 4th cupcakes. Click here to register.
What: July 4th Rocket Pop Cake Class
Where: Candyland Crafts, 44 West Somerset Street, Raritan
When: Sunday, June 27, 6 to 7 p.m.
It's $65 per person for a special class geared for attendees 13 and up, to learn to make this celebratory cake, where students will learn to fill their cake with a pop of sprinkles in the middle, then torte, fill crumb coat and ice their cake, with a range of piping techniques.
