Morris County Library Hosting Safety Event for Kids
The R.E.A.D. (Responders Encourage Awareness of Danger) event takes place Tuesday, July 12 at the Morris County Library.

Morris County Library is partnering with first responders to teach kids about safety on Tuesday, July 12 from 3-4:30 p.m.
"This is the first time we've done something like this," said Heidi Peer of Morris County Library.
The R.E.A.D. (Responders Encourage Awareness of Danger) program will give "youngers a hands-on experience when it comes to safety, with fire, emergency and rescue vehicles at the site to be explored," Morris County wrote in a press release.

In addition to safety lessons, identification cards will be made for kids, creating a database for children.

"In the event that something happens, the parents have something in the system," Peer said.
County first responders will read to the kids, promoting messages about staying safe and feeling comfortable around emergency workers.
To register for the program, call (973) 285-6980. The county library is located at 30 East Hanover Ave. in the Whippany section of Hanover Township, directly across from the Frelinghuysen Arboretum.
