Morristown COVID-19 Update: School News, Federal Funds Coming

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Here are the latest coronavirus updates around Morristown.

Cases and Vaccinations

The Morris County Division of Public Health reported 61 new cases from March 11 to Friday in Morristown. Officials have tallied 1,928 Morristown infections since the pandemic began.

The Morris School District reported the following on its COVID-19 dashboard as of Friday:

The New Jersey Department of Health has reported the following totals in Morris County as of Monday morning:

• 36,139 total confirmed cases (since the pandemic began)
• 6,447 probable cases
• 924 confirmed deaths
• 238 probable deaths

State officials have logged 254,394 vaccine doses administered in Morris County — an improvement of about 87,000 doses since Morristown Patch's last update March 4.

Recent Updates

• Two Morris School District employees have died from the coronavirus this
  past year. Superintendent Mackey Pendergrast shared the information, along with increasing cases in the school community, when explaining the district's reopening plan at Monday's Board of Education meeting. MORE.
• Morristown will receive $1,892,050.63 from the American Rescue Plan, the federal COVID-19 relief package passed March 12. MORE.

• Gov. Phil Murphy told CNN on Monday that New Jersey will have to hold off reopenings because of the surge in COVID variants in the region. Murphy said the surge in variants means that New Jersey won't have reopenings in the near future. He didn't provide a specific timeline. MORE.
• New Jersey issued rules and guidelines this weekend for those who may need the COVID vaccine to go to work. MORE.
• A new report says key metrics in the coronavirus crisis have risen in a
  number of New Jersey counties, showing that the Garden State has backslid amid the COVID pandemic. MORE.
