Morristown Girl Scouts Celebrate World Thinking Day!

When a girl signs up for Girl Scouts, she automatically connects with over 10 million other girls in 150 different countries. Since 1926, Girl Scouts have been making friendships around the world, which is why we celebrate World Thinking Day.

This past Friday, on February 22nd, at Morristown High School, Girl Scout Cadette Troop 94923, led by Micaela Cassidy and Seleyna Bautista, hosted World Thinking Day for over 175 Morristown Girl Scouts. With 20 troops participating, the Girl Scouts connected with each other while visiting stations showcasing Brazil, Canada, Chile, Ecuador, France, Greece, India, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Philippines, Switzerland, Venezuela, and Vietnam.

Amidst the fun of learning about and sampling delicious food from the various countries, the Girl Scouts also earned their Global Action badge by addressing one of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs for short. As this year’s SDGs focus on No Poverty, Morristown Girl Scouts assembled over 175 Breakfast Bags for the local Community Soup Kitchen, with donations from local businesses: Lovey’s, South Street Creamery, Target, Wegmans, ShopRite, Costco, Walmart, QuickChek, and Acme.

Taking action in their town to make sure people have enough to eat, Micaela Cassidy said, “It was amazing to see how our Girl Scouts and companies were so willing to help address a hunger issue in our community.”

When the girls delivered the Breakfast Bags to the Community Soup Kitchen, staffer Dennis Woodfork expressed his appreciation: “Thank you, Girl Scouts, for your hard work and dedication to helping others.”
