The girls take on Section 2, Group 4 winner Franklin next.

MORRISTOWN, NJ—The Morristown girls' varsity basketball team has won their State Sectional Championship for the first time in over a decade.

Top seeded Morristown beat East Orange, 45-35, to win the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 1 title. Morristown's last sectional title was in 2002.

“We just tried to play hard as a team and stick together,” point guard Elizabeth Strambi told TapInto. “These girls are my best friends and I think we all just played tough together because we wanted to keep the dream alive.”

“I can’t put it into words,” Morristown head coach Jim Pisciotti told nj.com about the win. “It sounds corny but when you come from a town that you grew up in, and you are able to do this is just awesome.”

Morristown will play at Union High School away on Wednesday against North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 winner Franklin at 6:30 p.m.
