Morristown Man Pleads Guilty To Robbery Charges

Edwin Urbina will be sentenced in October as part of his plea deal.

A Morristown man admitted to robbing a man for money and drugs at the Merriam-Gateway Apartment complex in December 2014, according to a story in the New Jersey Herald. Twenty-two-year old Edwin Urbina pleaded guilty to second-degree robbery, according to the article, in a Newton courtroom where William J. McGovern III was presiding.

On Dec. 27, 2014, Urbina confessed as part of his plea deal that he and codefendant Timothy Nauta Jr. found out another man was going into one of the apartments in the Sparta Avenue apartment building in order to make a transaction involving money and drugs. Urbina and Nauta, according to the New Jersey Herald, decided to rob this individual.
Urbina additionally admitted to striking and holding him down so his money could be taken and then fleeing the building.
According to New Jersey Herald, Urbina and his codefendant struck the victim and held him down while they robbed him. Urbina would discover later that their victim has a fractured jaw as a result of the attack.

After the investigation, Urbina and Nauta Jr. were charged with crimes related to this robbery in January of 2015, according to the New Jersey Herald.

As part of the plea deal Urbina accepted, the state will drop charges of third-degree aggravated assault and second-degree conspiracy in exchange for his his admission of guilt on the charge of second-degree robbery, says the New Jersey Herald. Urbina will serve three years when he is sentenced on Oct. 14.
