Morristown Man Stole $12K Through Forged Checks: Police

The man forged 17 checks, according to a seven-month investigation from Bernardsville police.

BERNARDSVILLE, NJ — A Morristown man faces dozens of charges after authorities accused him of defrauding victims out of more than $12,000. Fabian Madina forged 17 checks and tried depositing 28 fraudulent checks into his account, according to Bernardsville police.

Police began investigating after a Bernardsville resident reported a $1,700 check drawn from their account. Additional investigation revealed that the check was deposited into a Bernardsville business the defendant operated, authorities said.

Further investigation linked Medina, 53, to 17 forged checks and 28 attempted check deposits from April through September, police said.

Medina was charged with 13 counts of third-degree forgery, 12 counts of third-degree theft by deception, two counts of fourth-degree theft by deception and 12 additional counts of theft by deception that qualify as disorderly persons offenses.

He was issued a summons and released pending court proceedings.
