Morristown Native Broadcasting From 2018 Olympics
Morristown native and Rutgers alumna Kathryn Tappen is in PyeongChang, South Korea to cover the 2018 Winter Olympics.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Longtime Morristown residents might see a familiar face during the 2018 Olympics: Morristown native Kathryn Tappen is in PeyongChang to cover the Winter Games for NBC Sports.
Tappen will be covering the men's and women's hockey tournaments, the same role she held during the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia. She also covered the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
“The Olympics are unlike anything we cover at NBC Sports,” Tappen said. “It’s on the world stage, a global event. I am with the network in a different country, doing what we do. I am covering Team USA! I am incredibly passionate and patriotic about our country.”

She has experience covering hockey in her usual job as the host of the pre- and postgame show NHL Live. The Rutgers alumna got her start in broadcasting with the College Sports Television Network, working at different sports networks until landing at NBC four years ago.
In addition to covering the NHL, Tappen has covered Super Bowls, all-star games, and is the sideline reporter for "Notre Dame Football."

Tappen is also no stranger to the pressures of competing: she was a member of the Rutgers track-and-field team, and held the school record for the 3,000-meter steeplechase event.
“I understand, because of my own experience with track, what an athlete goes through,” Tappen said. “I know what the work ethic is like in balancing a lot of things in your life and trying to be very good at all of them. And, in this job, there is a lot to balance.”
