Morristown Reaches 70 Percent Of Adults Fully Vaccinated

MORRISTOWN, NJ — One month ago, Morris became New Jersey's first county to reach 70 percent of adults fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Now, Morristown has joined the party.

Seventy percent of Morristown's adults have been fully vaccinated against the virus, according to Friday's numbers from the New Jersey Department of Health. New Jersey set a six-month goal for the same percentage statewide to get fully inoculated against COVID-19 by July 1. Given the slight delays in reporting vaccinations, Morristown may have reached the milestone right on time.

Morristown, like the rest of New Jersey, has seen fewer new cases in recent weeks. Morris County officials, who track each town's case totals, reported only five new infections from June 23 to Thursday. Officials have reported 2,202 Morristown cases since the pandemic began.

New Jersey's most recent weekly COVID-19 report labeled Morris County at "moderate" risk of the virus. Two weeks prior, the state health department placed the county at "low" risk. In that time, the northwest region's emergency departments have seen slight increases in COVID-like symptoms (1.58 percent to 1.78 percent).

But the case rate has only increased from 2.09 percent to 2.11 percent in that span, and the positivity rate has decreased from 1.31 percent to 1.21 percent.

Here are Morristown's COVID-19 vaccine numbers as of Friday morning:

• Percentage of residents with at least one dose: 71 percent of all ages, 81 percent of adults (18 and over) and 100 percent of seniors (65 and older).
• Percentage fully vaccinated: 62 percent of all ages, 70 percent of adults and 94 percent of seniors.
