Morristown Rotary, Nonprofits Gave 24K Meals To Locals In Need

MORRISTOWN, NJ — Several nonprofits came together and provided 24,000 meals to families across the Morristown area. For their efforts, Gov. Phil Murphy recognized the Morristown Rotary Club and several local organizations and agencies who made it possible.

The rotary club received a $240,000 grant through the New Jersey Economic Development Authority's Sustain & Serve NJ Program. The endeavor was designed to help restaurants in need, while also fighting food insecurity.

Morristown's rotary club was one of 27 organizations to receive a grant. They worked with Homeless Solutions, nourish.NJ, Table of Hope and police, fire departments and housing authorities in Morristown and Morris Township to assist their communities. Their efforts provided 24,000 meals to local families.

"Rotary Board Member and past President Nick Walsh was the man behind this effort, and I had the chance to thank him and current President Ray Wenzel … for the rotary’s history of great work and community service," Murphy said during Wednesday's state COVID-19 briefing. "The Morristown Rotary will be celebrating its centennial next spring, and they are already setting the bar high for the next 100 years."
