The National Weather Service issued a snow squall warning in several counties, saying "dangerous" squalls were expected to develop and move across the state – especially along and north of the I-80 corridor – during Wednesday afternoon and evening. But the warning was declared in Central Jersey and the Jersey Shore, too.

Gusty winds of 30 to 40 mph also occurred during the afternoon and tonight. Tree damage and power outages remain possible where ice accumulations remain.

The NWS is urging people to use extra caution if traveling and be prepared for slippery road conditions with patchy areas of black ice, the NWS says. Use extreme caution if you encounter icy roads.

The NWS also issued a hazardous weather outlook to much of North Jersey, saying a snow squalls could last into Wednesday evening.

The squalls could produce brief significant reductions in visibility, 40-mph winds and a quick coating of snow, making for potentially hazardous travel conditions, the NWS says.

Cities from Philadelphia to coastal Maine along Interstate 95 can expect temperatures to drop into the teens Wednesday night as well, according to AccuWeather. A brisk northwest wind will accompany these mid-winter like temperatures.

Except for portions of western New York, the snow will come to an end across the Northeast by Thursday, according to AccuWeather. While sunnier conditions are expected for many of the big cities, subfreezing temperatures more commonly experienced in February will persist.
