Olympic-Bound: Morristown Native Nic Fink Qualifies With Team USA
After falling short of the top two in 2012, 2016 and the 100 breaststroke this year, Nic Fink finally made it to the Olympic team.

MORRISTOWN, NJ — As Team USA prepares for the Olympics in Tokyo, Morristown will also get some representation on the world stage. Nic Fink has qualified for the games after winning the men's 200-meter breaststroke during Wave 2 of the U.S. Olympic Swim Trials.
The Morristown native didn't have an easy path. Fink failed to finish in the top two at the 2012 and 2016 trials. The 27-year-old also fell short with a third-place showing in the 100 breaststroke earlier this year.
“It’s something I can’t really describe,” Fink told media. “Relief is only the beginning of what I’m feeling right now."

Fink finished the 200 breast at 2:07.55 — 0.77 seconds ahead of second place and 0.38 seconds off Josh Prenot's national record — in the June 17 race. Andrew Wilson, who also swims with Fink for the Athens Bulldog Swim Club in Georgia, finished second behind the Morristown native.
Fink trailed after 150 meters to Daniel Roy, who reached the mark 0.22 seconds ahead of him. But the Morristown native and Pingry School product made up ground in the final stretch to clinch the event.

Fink attended The Pingry School before enrolling at the University of Georgia, where he had several scoring appearances in the NCAA Championships.
He qualified for his first international team in 2013 after finishing second in the US National Championships/US World Championship Trials. Fink swam on the world stage in 2013, 2015 and 2017. His best finish in worlds came in 2017, when he placed fifth in the 200 breaststroke.
The Summer Olympics in Tokyo take place from July 23 to Aug. 8.
