MORRISTOWN, NJ — Alright, Mother Nature, this is getting old. Morristown has received several inches of snow, and it could continue falling into Friday.

The driving conditions created some issues around the area. Officials reported a disabled tractor trailer at 9:38 a.m. Thursday blocking the right lane on Interstate 80 in Mount Olive. A vehicle overturned earlier in Harding Township, but the scene has been
cleared for drivers.

A vehicle overturned Thursday morning on Route 287 South at mile marker 29, which falls in the Bernards Township area. Patch reached out to State Police for further detail and will update with any response.

Here's the forecast in Morristown as of Thursday afternoon:

  • Thursday night: Snow. Low around 25. Northeast wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
  • Friday: Snow likely before 2pm, then rain and snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 34. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
  • Friday night: A chance of rain and snow before 7pm, then a slight chance of snow between 7pm and 8pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 23. Northwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
  • Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 32. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.

Forecasters projected 6-8 inches of snow in Morris County for this storm. Snowfall data from the National Weather Service shows nearly 4 inches in parts of the county as of Thursday afternoon.

The snowstorm caused closures throughout the area. The Morris School District went virtual Thursday and canceled in-person extracurriculars. Unity Charter School held a snow day, without remote education.

Town Hall and the municipal court stayed closed Thursday, while several businesses shuttered early or held snow days of their own.

The following garages will be open from free parking from 6 p.m. Wednesday through 9 a.m. Saturday for residents who park on-street and/or have on-street parking permits:

  • Dalton Garage at Cattano Avenue
  • Dehart Street Garage (very limited availability)
  • Ann/Bank Parking Garage
  • HQ's parking garage (exit between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., must see an attendant at exit)
