A Walk Through Whippany River's History In Morristown
Morris County Historical Society and the Whippany River Watershed Activity will hold its first History Hike on Sunday, October 16.
The first Annual Whippany River History Hike/Walk in Morristown will highlight for attendees some remnants of American roots right in Morris County.
The two-hour hike, organized by a joint collaboration between the Whippany River Watershed Action Committee and the Morris County Historical Society, will meander along a two-mile path highlighting distinct cultural and natural features, including flora and fauna. Tour guides will give presentations along the hike, including one delineating the cultural significance of a woodlot behind Acorn Hall that the MCHS recovered after it was lost during Superstorm Sandy. Attendees will also learn about a Revolutionary-Era Powder Mill and the land-use of George Griswald Frelinghuysen’s "Whippany Farm," better known today as the Frelinghuysen Arboretum.
THe 1st Annual Whippany River History Hike/Walk happens on Sunday, October 16 between 12:30 PM and 4:00 PM, beginning at the Morris County Historical Society at Acorn Hall, 68 Morris Avenue. FOr more information, call (973) 267-3465.
