Work Begins Monday On 10-Month Dover Bridge Project

DOVER, NJ — Work is scheduled to begin on Monday, Jan. 27, to replace the deck of the East Blackwell Street Bridge which goes over the Rockaway River in Dover, according to a release from Morris County.

Motorists will have to go around on a 2.5-mile detour for up to 10 months, the release says. Pedestrians, however, will be able to cross a temporary pedestrian bridge which will be installed soon after the closing.

The $1.85 million project will replace the 37-year-old bridge deck and both approaches to the bridge.

Sparwick Contracting, of Lafayette Township, was the lowest responsible bidder, so will take over the project. The state's Local Bridges Future Needs Program is the source of the cash.

The bridge currently is used by 18,000 people daily, the release says.
