MORRIS COUNTY, NJ — You know the saying: April showers bring May flowers. But there likely aren't any May flowers left, after several rainstorms pummeled the county this week.

Most of the focus was on a tornado in nearby Stanhope that downed trees and power lines. In addition to fierce winds, rainfall totals far surpassed the averages for a typical May. In May 2019, Morris County saw eight inches of rain— nearly four inches more than normal.

Most of that rain came during the series of thunderstorms the county saw this past week. A Morristown weather spotter reported 1.66 inches of rain Tuesday night into Wednesday morning alone, with another inch reported on Thursday morning, and an additional 1.25 inches in Harding reported Friday morning.
