2 Free Fireworks Shows, Concerts Planned For Newark: 2017 Event

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — If you’re looking to see a free fireworks display in Essex County this summer, county officials are planning to provide three explosive opportunities to catch a show.

According to a county news release, there will be a trio of fireworks shows as part of Essex County’s 2017 Free SummerMusic Concert Series, a series of public concerts taking place throughout the county from Saturday, June 16, to Sunday, Sept. 10.

The fireworks will take place in conjunction with concerts on the following days:

  • Thursday, June 29 - Essex County Weequahic Park – Newark - 7:30 p.m.
  • Friday, June 30 - Essex County Branch Brook Park – Newark/Belleville - 7:30 p.m.
  • Monday, July 3 - Essex County Brookdale Park – Montclair/Bloomfield - 7:30 p.m.

Fillet of Soul and Fireworks Display

The 10-member band originally was formed in the late 1960s by friends at Hackensack High School. Filet of Soul won musical performance competitions, toured the British Isles and Scotland, and recorded the hit songs “Swinging on a Love Vine” and “Don’t Touch the Sun.” After the band split, members joined other musical groups and continued to perform. However, a reunion of Fillet of Soul always was a possibility, and the group reunited in 2010.

Fillet of Soul and the Fireworks Display will be held as follows:

  • Place: Essex County Weequahic Park, Meeker Avenue, Newark, NJ

The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra and Fireworks Display

Pack your gear and come along on a “Road Trip Across the USA” – NJ Symphony Orchestra-style. Travel with the NJSPO, led by Conductor Sameer Patel, through the heartland with John Williams’ moving score to “Lincoln,” to the Wild West and Copland’s iconic “Rodeo,” and all the way to the Magic Kingdom with favorite music from “Beauty and the Beast.” This memorable musical trip will be fun for the whole family. After the concert, a fireworks show will light up the night sky for a brilliant cap to a lovely night. In case of rain, the concert will be relocated the Cathedral Basilica in Newark and the fireworks will be rescheduled at a later date.

  • Place: Essex County Branch Brook Park, Heller Parkway, The Great Lawn, Newark, NJ

Jersey Sound and Fireworks Display

Jersey Sound is one of the Tri-State area's premier oldies band, known for its versatility and talented members. The band puts its own spin on the music industry by giving the audience a combination of music genres creating delectable sounds the ear can only imagine. They offer an eclectic blend of classic Oldies, Classic Rock, Motown, R&B, British Invasion and Pop. With the very best vocalists and a killer rhythm section holding it all together, the "Jersey Sound" experience is one the audience will never forget.

Jersey Sound and the Fireworks Display will be held as follows:

  • Time: 7:30 p.m.
  • Place: Essex County Brookdale Park, Watchung Avenue, Bloomfield, NJ
