2 Dead, 1 Wounded in Newark Shootings

Two incidents do not appear to be related, the prosecutor's office said.

Authorities are investigating two homicides that occurred a few hours apart Friday in Newark.

Kareem Jones, 33, of Irvington, was found shot multiple times in the 100 block of Muhammad Ali Avenue at about 2:40 p.m. Friday, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said. Jones was taken to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:19 p.m.

Jermaine Gamble, 20, of Newark, was fatally shot in the 200 block of South 8th Street at about 4:50 p.m. Friday, the prosecutor's office said. A female gunshot victim was also discovered at the scene and was transported to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The two incidents did not immediately appear to be related, the prosecutor's office said.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Task Force is investigation both shootings.
