NEWARK, NJ — Employees at Newark Liberty International Airport are now able to get a coronavirus vaccine at their workplace.

The vaccines are being made available through a partnership between United Airlines, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the New Jersey Department of Health and Premise Health.

A point of distribution site (POD) was launched at Terminal C within the airport’s Premise Health Clinic, United Airlines said.

Beginning Tuesday, all Newark Airport and airline employees will be able to make an appointment to receive a vaccine.

“The only way we can emerge from this pandemic is by getting as many people vaccinated as possible,” Gov. Phil Murphy said.

“I encourage all airport employees to take advantage of this great service and to make an appointment for their vaccinations as soon as possible for the safety of themselves, travelers and the residents of New Jersey,” Murphy added.

Port Authority Chair Kevin O’Toole said the new partnership will help “overcome the pandemic.”

“While we continue to take all necessary precautions to limit the spread of COVID-19 through enhanced cleaning and using face coverings, vaccinations are also key to our recovery throughout the region,” O’Toole said.

“Ensuring the health and wellness of all our employees remains the top priority for the agency,” Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton said. “Our airport and airline employees have helped to keep the region running throughout the pandemic, and the Port Authority is proud to support this vaccination pop-up site to help more employees get vaccinated.”

Mike Erbeck, vice president of Newark Airport for United, said the new partnership is a “big win” for the entire airport community.

“Widespread vaccination is essential to our global recovery,” Erbeck said.

United has other POD locations set up in Chicago, Houston and Guam, and supports airport-operated POD facilities in Denver and Honolulu.
