Devils Reinvigorate Look with Adidas Reverse Retro ADIZERO Jersey
First-ever green jersey reflects famed Pine Barrens Forests, home of the Garden State's legendary Jersey Devil while honoring team history

NEWARK, NJ – By and large, the New Jersey Devils image on the ice has been defined by the organization’s consistent red, black and white uniform colors that it has used since the 1992-93 NHL season. Aside from the tributes to the heritage jerseys, which the team wore for the first decade after its inaugural season, there hasn’t been much diversity in the team’s game day sweaters.
That is until today when the Devils launched a slick, new green-based ‘reverse retro’ ADIZERO jersey in collaboration with adidas and the NHL’s first league-wide, alternate jersey program that included all 31 teams.

This is the Devils first-ever green-based jersey gives a nod to the team’s namesake of the famed mythological creature the Jersey Devil that is said to have roamed the Pine Barrens of South Jersey in the early 1900s while honoring the legacy of the team’s introductory colors following its relocation and name change from the Colorado Rockies.
“The adidas Reverse Retro ADIZERO Authentic jersey program created the opportunity for our organization to step back in time in a playful way, accentuating the Pine Barrens-inspired green that plays a significant role in our team history,” said Devils Senior Vice President of Marketing, Jillian Frechette. “In the coming months, we look forward to bringing the storied first decade of our franchise to life through storytelling, unique immersive experiences and fan-centric promotions tied to this jersey and the games in which we will wear it.”

Refreshing is a theme that Devils fans commonly used to describe the newest alternate uniform.
“I find the new reverse retro jerseys to be refreshing, yet, easy of the eyes and classy,” said Joseph Tolentino, 30, a lifelong Devils fan who lives in Fair Lawn, NJ.
Tony Picinich, 21, of Oakland, NJ agreed, but would still like to see more variety of colors in the team’s uniform lineup.
“I think the new jerseys are a breath of fresh air,” Picinich suggested. “Although I would have rather liked to see black jerseys, all green is something different and they’re going to look good on the ice.”
The adidas Reverse Retro program creates a new formula to showcase the passion of the fans. The overarching design theme during adidas’ two-year-long process was to mine each team’s jersey archive and team colors, remixing them to create something new and never seen before. With that in mind, adidas created uniquely distinct and desirable jerseys that incorporated inverted team colors.
“Our goal from day one has been to work with the NHL and all of the teams to bring creativity, innovation, and energy to the sport with all that we do,” said Dan Near, Senior Director at adidas Hockey. “What better way to do that than to bring together the nostalgia of historical moments in each team’s history with something new via designs that have never been seen before in the sport.”
The new alternate jerseys introduced today will be will be worn by all 31 NHL teams four times over the course of the upcoming season for games that are to be determined; match-ups will be selected to highlight the impact and influence of the Reverse Retro program.
“NHL team jerseys have long carried deep historical significance for avid and casual hockey fans,” Brian Jennings, NHL Chief Brand Officer and Senior Executive Vice President added. “Through the years, the design of each team jersey has evolved to balance history and authenticity with cultural touchpoints. The Reverse Retro program is a celebration of the hockey jersey’s confluence of nostalgia, style and broad appeal. As a brand, adidas sits at the epicenter of youth, sports and lifestyle and is the ideal partner for this exciting initiative.”
