Family-Friendly Kite Event Returning To Weequahic Park In Newark
They're giving the expression "go fly a kite" an entirely new meaning.
NEWARK, NJ — A family-friendly community event is returning to Newark for 2021.
According to organizers, the Weequahic Park Kite Distribution Extravaganza will take place at the Ronald B. Christian Sports Complex at noon on Saturday, May 29.
For this year's event, the goal is to supply 10,000 kites to any children who come into Weequahic Park and wants to fly a kite, organizers said.

Due to the restrictions and limitation of the gathering rules of large crowds, the event will be a distribution format. Families are encouraged to preregister in advance, organizers said. Learn more about resigtration here.
The effort is a community-friendly event designed to bring families together with resources for their children. It was launched in 2013 by the Weequahic Park Sports Authority, a conservancy member organization with Essex County.
