Heavy 2-Alarm Fire Breaks Out In Elizabeth Monday Afternoon

ELIZABETH, NJ — A fire broke out Monday late afternoon in a two and a half story home over a commercial business in Jackson Avenue, in Elizabeth, according to the fire department.

The fire was reported at around 6:30 p.m and went to a second alarm shortly after. There was heavy fire on the top floor venting out the window.

Over 50 firefighters were called to help put out the fire, which was under control within the first hour.

There were no major injuries, but several firefighters were treated at the scene for heat exhaustion due to the hot temperatures.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to officials.
