A cruise ship departing New Jersey got pounded by Tropical Storm Hermine surf this weekend as passengers reported that many got sick.

A number of New Jersey residents were aboard the Royal Caribbean's Anthem of the Seas when it got pounded by the surf.

The ship dealt with higher winds and gusts for a 2- to 3-hour period as it sailed toward Bermuda on Sunday, the cruise line said in a statement sent to CBS New York.

Passenger Robert McHugh of Point Pleasant captured the scene on video with his brother-in-law, Derek Biedermann of Brick, who said swells next to the ship were 40-50 feet and dishes were flying around the ship's restaurants.

"All was good until about early morning that's when the ship started to sway a bit here," said Biedermann, on a video provided by McHugh. "Half the ship is over the toilet right now."
