New Homes For 79 Newark Residents With Disabilities: HUD
HUD: "This federal funding is critical for low-income persons with disabilities and their families."

NEWARK, NJ — The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded $98.5 million to 285 local public housing authorities across the country – including Newark – that will provide permanent affordable housing to nearly 12,000 persons with disabilities.
On Thursday, the HUD announced that the Newark Housing Authority will receive $827,917 worth of tenant-based vouchers. Those vouchers will in turn give 79 local residents a place to call home.
The housing assistance announced is provided through the HUD’s Section 811 Mainstream Housing Choice Voucher Program, which provides funding to housing agencies to assist non-elderly persons with disabilities who are transitioning out of institutional or other separated settings, at serious risk of institutionalization, homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

“This federal funding is critical for low-income persons with disabilities and their families who cope with great health challenges every day,” said Lynne Patton, HUD Regional Administrator for New York and New Jersey. “These are additional vouchers will serve more Newark residents, providing permanent housing while freeing up resources to live more independently.”
