Leapfrog Group Releases Safety ‘Grades’ For 3 Newark Hospitals

See the nonprofit watchdog group's latest ratings for Newark Beth Israel, Saint Michael's and University Hospital.

NEWARK, NJ — The Leapfrog Group has released its latest round of "grades" for three Newark hospitals.

On Thursday, the nonprofit watchdog group announced its latest round of biannual hospital safety grades. The group assigned an "A," "B," "C," "D," or "F" rating to more than 2,700 general acute-care hospitals in the U.S., based on their ability to “protect patients from errors, accidents and injuries.” Learn more about the methodology here.

NEWARK BETH ISRAEL

Newark Beth Israel Medical Center scored an “A” rating for its spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade. See the full rating here.

  • Fall 2019 – D
  • Spring 2019 – D
  • Fall 2018 – D
  • Spring 2018 - F

Nationwide, 33 percent of hospitals received an "A," 24 percent received a "B," 35 percent received a "C," 7 percent received a "D," and less than 1 percent received an "F" in the spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades.
