Man, 83, Found Beaten, Stabbed to Death in Newark Apartment

An 83-year-old man was found beaten and stabbed to death in his Nevada Street apartment Saturday night, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said.

Family members found Leonard Pearson unresponsive at about 10 p.m. Saturday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The prosecutor's office is also investigating the homicide of Yasin Bell, 29, who lived in Carteret and Newark. Bell was shot and killed at 525 Elizabeth Ave. at about 2 a.m. Sunday, the prosecutor's office said.

Bell was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Both homicides remain under investigation and there were no motives or suspects as of Monday morning.
